You’re tired of working. With little motivation, you struggle to find reason behind the current task, project or assignment. This is burnout!

By definition, burnout is categorized as being in a state of exhaustion; including physical, mental and emotional depletion. Though there is no one cause for burnout, it is often linked to a surplus of stress, feelings of being overwhelmed, and the inability to meet the constant demands of work, school or society. Once feeling burnt out, it can become increasingly difficult to recover from it, or regain a sense of motivation/purpose moving forward. Thus, it’s important to recognize the dangers of burnout, and to know how to tackle it! Read on to discover some of the best ways to beat burnout (before it hits).

1. Know your limits!

With whatever you put your mind to, it’s important to know your limits. Be sure that you set boundaries for yourself (such as the amount of time you spend on a certain task, or establishing certain days to work and not work), and stick to them - for your own good!

2. Learn that taking a break isn’t a waste of time

Ensure that you aren’t overworking yourself! Being productive doesn’t always mean working the longest hours. In fact, what is best for yourself is often quite the opposite. Taking a much needed nap, break or walk outside can leave you feeling rejuvenated and energized when you return to work. It’s also very important for your wellbeing and mental health! It’s one of the most productive things you can do for yourself.

3. BREATHE

Stand up, take a step back and a deep breath. Approaching challenges or stressful situations with a calm mind is much more powerful than you think!

4. See the big picture & look back

In the midst of all your hard work and determination towards a goal, it can often be difficult to look back at everything you have already accomplished! By doing so once in a while, you’ll be able to re-evaluate the bigger picture, and remember that what you are doing right now is only (most likely) one step in a long term goal or process.

5. Stay motivated

Remember to maintain motivation! This can be done with inspirational quotes, keeping a vision board, or writing down your short-term and long-term goals (it could be as simple as following inspirational quote accounts on social media, or downloading a motivational app!). By remembering why you started, you’ll be more inclined to finish and continue working towards your objective.
